Saturday. No one had a fever today and the Mucinex seems to be helping the youngest clear out her system. So we headed out for a family play date. We headed to one of my favorite parks and had the big almost new playground all to ourselves. The wind was a little cold but the girls had fun playing. We took a break and went to the new Starbucks in town for hot chocolates and cake pops. Then we went to the school playground for a while. We played and ran and the wind was still cold but not as cold as it had been. In the end we spent almost the whole afternoon outside. The fresh air and exercise were just what we needed.

At one point, in the midst of a game of hide and seek, I laid down in the grass just outside the small rubber playground border that held in the gravel. The sky above was a deep blue with cottontail clouds laid out like a quilt across the sky. Something shifted in me almost instantly. I laid there for a while looking. Feeling small and quiet for the first time in as long as I can remember. I thought about reaching for my phone to take a photo but just laid there instead. For the first time in as long as I can remember my brain wasn’t a clutter of competing thought trains. I was just there, between grass and sky.

Probably I don’t spend enough time laying in the grass looking at the sky.
