It’s a two photo day.

It’s the Monday after New Years and the last day of break before everyone returns to school tomorrow. As much as my mama heart wanted to shield us all from the looming responsibilities for one final day, the responsibilities pushed back. On top of a pile of work I had to get done, we had three dentist appointments—one for each child. Two were standard checkups which thankfully went smoothly with no additional dental work needed. But my poor middle child has somehow landed cavity-prone teeth despite our efforts at brushing, flossing, and mouthwash.

Luckily, she has also somehow become the toughest of the three. She gets only a little nervous before the dentist or shots or other things that bring her sisters to tears with dread. So while I wouldn’t wish the amount of dental work she’s had to have on anyone, it’s a small miracle that she handles it so well (especially when you read my past posts and remember that this was the toddler afraid of EVERYTHING).

So today was a real mixed bag. It was the last day of break, an extra day I am so grateful for. And… it wasn’t our most relaxing or fun day. But it’s good to get things done. Over break we got the oil changed in the van, got caught up on dental appointments, switched out everyone’s clothes so the things in their drawers actually fit their ever-growing arms and legs, cleaned the toy room, switched the girls’ bedrooms around so the oldest could official have her own space, cleaned out cupboards and bathroom drawers, all the things. And…we played outside and went to a variety of parks, played board games and did puzzles, made art, snuggled, danced, read books, laughed, wrote, imagined, ate ice cream, made s’mores in the fireplace, and so on.

So in keeping with the trend, even in the midst of work and responsibilities today, the girls found time to make a snowman in the front yard. His name is frosty. He gets in trouble for poking people with his stick arms and one arm has extra muscle on it and we can’t find his other glove but that’s okay. We love him anyway.

And we loved break and we aren’t ready for it to be over. But here we go anyway.
